Listen to a NotebookLM generated podcast style overview of this article and Creative Rig in general.
Hey, I’m Hobbs — the artist and tech obsessive behind OBBZ, and now, Creative Rig: my side-blog built for creatives who demand more from their machines.
If you’re here, you’re probably someone like me — a 3D artist pushing dense scenes, a video editor wrestling 8K timelines, a designer building complex vector systems, or a developer breathing life into new ideas. You already know your creativity relies on more than just software — it’s about the machine driving it.
And yet, finding tech advice that actually speaks to creative workflows? It’s a mess of gaming benchmarks, vague marketing speak, and little consideration for the real-world needs of artists and creators.
That’s exactly why I decided to start this blog.
What will you be blogging about?
Creative Rig is the technical counterpart to my creative studio, OBBZ. It’s a blog focused entirely on helping artists, designers, and creators understand, build, and optimise their most important tool: their computer. No fluff. No hype. Just useful, tested insight for people who actually work in creative tools every day.
Here, we cut through the noise to focus on what really matters: empowering creativity through smart, well-built tech.
Who’s Behind It?
I’m Hobbs — 3D artist, motion designer, and the one-person studio behind OBBZ. I spend my days crafting surreal visuals, building functional websites, and solving creative challenges for brands and experiences. But behind the screen, I’ve also been obsessed with the gear that powers it all — from building custom PCs and tweaking render setups to diving deep into hardware bottlenecks and optimisation quirks.
Creative Rig is the resource I wish existed years ago. I’ve built it for people like me — hands-on creators who care about performance, reliability, and thoughtful design.
What You’ll Find Here
Creative Rig is still new, but here’s what to expect:
- Build Guides for Creators
Not just “good gaming PCs.” We design rigs tailored to creative work: silent 3D workstations, budget-friendly design machines, colour-accurate setups for video editing — all with workflows in mind. - Hardware Reviews (With Real Use Cases)
No FPS charts here. Just honest, workflow-driven reviews of CPUs, GPUs, monitors, and more — answering questions like “Will this SSD help with my After Effects cache?” or “Is this GPU worth it for Blender cycles?” - Optimisation & Workflow Tips
Get the most from your rig with guides on tuning for Adobe CC, DaVinci Resolve, Cinema 4D, Blender, Unreal, and beyond. - Workspace & Setup Inspiration
Explore ways to improve your physical and digital environment to boost focus, reduce friction, and foster creative momentum.
Curated Tools & Gear
We’re also building out a Suggested Gear section: a curated list of components, peripherals, and accessories I’ve tested and trust for creative workflows. Wherever possible, we’ll use affiliate links — which means if you buy something through the site, we’ll earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you). It’s a simple way to support the blog and help keep things running.
Let’s Build Something Better
Creative Rig isn’t just a side project — it’s a space to explore the intersection of creativity and technology. Whether you’re here to tweak your setup, build something new, or just nerd out over what’s possible, I’m glad you’re here.
Let’s get to work.
